2005 GAME SUMMARY
CARABINS 24 - STINGERS 21

Concordia Stingers fell 24 -- 21 to the U of Montreal Carabins in a rainy 19th Shrine Bowl.

The Stingers controlled the first half but, came out flat in the third quarter and just could not get going.

The Carabins took advantage of the situation and came out firing. The fourth quarter was fairly even with the Carabins holding on to their slim lead. Dispite the inclement weather this years Shine Bowl was an exciting game and enjoyed by all who braved the weather.

The games MVP's were Kang from the Stingers and Mrové from the Carabins. The Carabins defensive end Martain Gagné and the Stingers nose tackle Josh MacDonald were presented with the Ted Elsby awards. The Alouette Alumnae Association honors the games outstanding defensive linemen each year.

2OO4 GAME SUMMARY
Laval 24, Concordia 7

At Montreal, Jeronimo Huerta-Flores rushed for 199 yards on 25 carries as the third-ranked Laval Rouge et Or defeated the Concordia Stingers 24-7 in the 18th annual Shrine Bowl.

Huerta-Flores 999 rushing yards on the campaign rank second on the Quebec conference all-time list, 28 yards short of the single-season record set by Mark Brown of Carleton in 1986.

The Rouge et Or didn't allow a point on defence for a third consecutive game. The last points scored against Laval's defensive unit came on a field goal early in the third quarter of a 47-13 win over Sherbrooke on Oct. 3.

Laval, who had four interceptions this afternoon, also held Concordia to under 100 yards of total offence for the second time this Fall. Playing without starting quarterback Scott Syvret, the Stingers could only muster 86 yards in today's match-up. They had 77 yards in a head-to-head 17-5 loss back in week one.

Alternating at quarterback, Stephane Larosiliere, on a one-yard run, and William Leclerc, from seven yards out, scored touchdowns for Laval. Larosiliere added three field goals.

All the highlights for Concordia came from a strong defensive effort as well.

Defensive end Troy Cunningham recorded 1.5 sacks to give him 10.5 on the season, breaking the previous Quebec conference mark of 9.5 set by McGill's Steve Young in 2002. Cunningham had six solo tackles, three assists and a fumble recovery on the day.

Mickey Donovan had 14 solo tackles, four assisted tackles, a forced fumble and a sack, while Kerry Clahane scored the Stingers only points on a 45-yard interception return late in the opening half that sent Concordia to the locker room trailing 8-7.

Huerta-Flores and Donovan were named the Shrine Bowl MVPs and Cunningham was presented with the Ted Elsby Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the top defensive lineman in the game as chosen by the Montreal Alouettes Alumni.
